About Bark & Dwell

Thread has been part of our founder's story since day one — literally. Sunghee grew up in the back of her family's textile shop, sewing machines humming, fabric everywhere. After immigrating to the U.S., she studied at UC Berkeley, then built her own home décor textile business — spending 15+ years perfecting a craft that had always felt like home.

Then there were the dogs. (There are always the dogs.) 🐶

She was always making things for the people she loved. When embroidery entered the picture, pet portraits felt like a natural fit — and once friends and family got their hands on them, the requests didn't stop. Bark & Dwell was born right here in Austin, Texas.

She Really Means It About the Dogs

Since 2018, Sunghee has co-founded @pawpawbostonterriers — a rescue group that finds forever homes in the U.S. for dogs from South Korea. Over 150 dogs placed, one at a time — every application read, every match made personally.

She also funds medical care for street dogs in Guatemala - spay/neuter, flea treatment, vet visits — through a friend there who shares her love for animals.

At home? Four rescue dogs. One very patient husband.

Every piece is stitched by someone who takes your furry family member just as seriously as you do.

That's Bark & Dwell. So happy you're here. 🐾

Photo Guide

The better the photo, the better the portrait. Choose a clear, well-lit shot — think of it as your pet's official headshot!

Collars and accessories are removed by default.

For face & body portrait: Please send a photo where the face and body are clearly visible.

Also avoid sending photos that are: blurry or out of focus  ·  pet sleeping / eyes closed  ·  group shot when you need individual portraits  ·  pet in costume or clothes  ·  extreme top-down angle
